★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★
Skills: He's a skilled infiltrator, negotiator, and scholar, street-wise and well-traveled.
Canon Abilities: Thancred has been a gladiator, skilled in the use of sword and shield techniques, a rogue who uses dual daggers, and a Gunbreaker, which uses magic-infused ammunition cartridges for various effects that can range from shielding himself and others from harm and provoking the ire of enemies.
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Thancred can manifest glowing white feathered wings that have a seven foot wingspan. While they're out, he glows with a bright aura, not blinding but definitely there. The wingspan doesn't afford him actual flight, but he can glide and slow a fall from a great height. He can also do short flights, sort of...like a chicken.
Role Reasoning: While Thancred has had a lot of different roles both in the narrative and the party over the expansions of the game, one thing has remained constant: he is dedicated to the protection and prosperity of Eorzea and puts the needs of his found family, his nation of responsibility, and his world before his own. He is fearless when faced with overwhelming odds and, while occasionally struck with self-doubt, will pull himself together to be there for the people counting on him. He doesn't balk at the idea of something being "too big" for him, but is more than willing to stand on the front line to stem the tide, come whatever may.

Thancred's greatest trauma was also multifaceted. Their escape from the failed feast in Uldah and betrayal, his getting lost for several months in the Aetherial sea only to return to a world where Minfilia, his charge and little sister, was gone hit him hard. Admittedly, it was a lot to handle all at once. He was stripped of his ability to manipulate Aether, and had to wrestle with this new handicap as well as swallowing the very large pill of having failed to keep Minfilia safe. Once jovial and capricious, Thancred became more withdrawn and subdued for a time, but ultimately, it gave him the drive to innovate himself, and gave him an even more dogged determination to protect those he loves, by any means necessary and with little concern for him own well-being.
What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?
Arguably, the most defining relationships in Thancred's life are that of his bond with all the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, Era Ra included. Before being recruited by Louisoix Leveilleur, he was nothing but an orphaned streetrat in a city full of orphaned streetrat. Through this bond with all of them, he has grown from a young man doubtful of his own abilities to a formidable force of defense and protection who serves as an unshakable barrier between his friends and the foes who would end them.
Beyond friends and comrades, they are all of them, including those he's been forced to leave behind on the First, his family, the only one he's ever known, and while its numbers have swelled and dwindled with events both miraculous and tragic, his dedication to their cause and the future of their home and their shared worlds, has only rarely faltered. Having been the unwilling vessel for an Ascian only served to further put into focus how much he needed to protect them.
What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?
While having spent much of his youth a pickpocket in order to survive on the streets, Thancred has always had a deep-seated sense of duty and a protective nature, not only for those close to him, but also for the world at large. Louisoix served as an inspiration and an outlet, broadening his horizons to the ideals of protecting the many as well as the few, and served to further instill within him a drive to public service. That drive to protect and nurture follows him wherever he may roam, including new worlds, as he would do anything to protect his home, wherever that may end up being.
What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.
I would say "self-worth", but that seems a little too deprecating. Thancred has often been shown giving himself pep-talks when no one else is around, saying things like "you can do this, the Scions are counting on you". It would be accurate to say he suffers from imposter syndrome, as he finds it difficult to parse his ability to stand on equal footing with all the extraordinary people he comes into contact with every day. He is able to outwardly exude confidence, which he does in spades, but inwardly, he struggles to believe he is capable and worthy of his friends' greatness, and it is their support, love, and devotion that give him the strength he needs to carry on.
